NAJU, South Korea, July 13 (Yonhap) -- South Korea dropped to Italy 3-0 to take the silver medal in men's football at the Universiade on Monday.
South Korea went down a man just six minutes into the match at Naju Public Stadium in Naju, South Jeolla Province, southwest of the main host city Gwangju, and Italy scored two first-half goals en route to the easy victory.
South Korea was trying to win its first Universiade gold in men's football since 1991.
In the group stage here, South Korea defeated Italy 1-0 on July 5. On Monday, the Italians turned the tables, as South Korean defender Park Dong-jin was sent off early and handcuffed the team that entered the gold medal match with an undefeated record.
Tommaso Biasci and Paolo Regoli scored in the 11th and in the 32nd minutes. Leonardo Morosini made it 3-0 Italy in the 54th.
Biasci was ejected on his second yellow of the match near the hour mark, but his absence had no bearing on the final result.
